Picture this: your web person stops answering. Then you find out your domain name and your Google profile are both in their account, not yours. Getting them back can take months.
It's easy to prevent. You should own every account, and anyone helping you should just have access.
Check these four things
- Your domain name. Log in to where your domain is registered (like GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Squarespace). The account should be in your name, with your email.
- Your Google Business Profile. You should be the primary owner. Anyone helping you should be added as a manager.
- Google Analytics and Search Console. Same idea. You own them, and helpers are added as users.
- Your Facebook page. You should have full control. Give helpers limited access.
If someone else owns it
Ask them to transfer ownership to you. For a Google profile, they can add you and then make you primary owner. For a domain, they can transfer it to an account in your name. If they won't answer, Google and most registrars have a process to request ownership, but it's slow, so fix it while things are friendly.
